New Downtown Drillers Baseball Stadium to Become a Reality
After a lengthly public hearing, the Tulsa City Council tonight passed a resolution that authorizes the renewal of the Downtown Business Improvement District (BID). The BID will provide part of the overall funding package to build a new stadium for the Tulsa Drillers baseball team. The cost of the stadium is estimated to be $60 million with $30 million pledged from private donors, $25 million from the BID and $5 million from the lease of the facility to the Drillers.
“With the partnership of the City Council and with many people in the private sector, we were able to bring forward a winning package to fund this new ballpark,” said Mayor Kathy Taylor. “This will anchor our entertainment districts and bring even more energy and people to Tulsa’s revitalized downtown.”
The funding package was the result of Mayor Kathy Taylor’s efforts over
the past several months to find an innovative and inclusive solution to
keep the team in Tulsa.
“This is the tipping point for Tulsa’s downtown,” said Taylor. “Tulsa is at its best when community leaders partner with our City Council to plant seeds for the next generation.”
