The City of Tulsa and the Tulsa Beautification Foundation have partnered to create a new sign program to reduce clutter on the arterial streets and eliminate public safety hazards resulting from illegal signs in the right of way.
The 2nd annual Mayor’s Entrepreneurial Spirit Award competition has come to a close with this year’s winner taking home a $30,000 award from Spirit Bank, with an additional $30,000 match from i2e. A private, non-profit corporation, i2e focuses on wealth creation in the technology-based industries.
Mayor Kathy Taylor was joined today by North Tulsa leaders to announce developments on economic incentives for the area.
Tulsa's dropout rate is twice the state average. At almost 30%, this alarming statistic prompted the Mayor to partner with General Colin Powell's "America's Promise Alliance" to find solutions.
"People may ask what role I play in public education," said Taylor. "The answer is clear: the success of our children directly impacts our efforts to create a healthy, vibrant community." The Mayor pointed to statistics that bear her message out such as how improving graduation rates boost the economy and lower crime.
According to the Alliance for Excellent Education, approximately 14,700 students did not graduate from Oklahoma's high schools last year, resulting in lost lifetime wages of $3.8 billion*.
"We need a common will and a common vision for our kids," said Taylor. "This summit is the first step in seeking innovative solutions to keeping our kids in school and helping them achieve their highest potential."
